Orient Odyssey celebrates the splendour of pearls
at Jewellery & Gem WORLD Hong Kong
|
A tribute to the harmonious collaboration between man and nature in producing one of the most beloved gems in the world, the curated showcase is located at Booth 3M260 in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
“Rarely does anything capture the imagination quite like nature’s living gems, inherently flawless from the point of collection,” said Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs at Informa Markets Jewellery. “Orient Odyssey not only honours the timeless beauty of pearls but also introduces them to a new generation of B2B buyers.”
The exhibit is presented by Informa’s Jewellery & Gem Knowledge Community, in partnership with the world’s most illustrious pearl producers, luxury pearl jewellery brands and flagship industry associations. Serving as Platinum Sponsors are The AUTORE Group, Edison Pearls, Hatta New World Company Limited, Japan Pearl Exporters’ Association (JPEA), Japan Pearl Promotion Society (JPPS), Jewelmer, Paspaley Pearling Company and Rio Pearl. Among the Gold Sponsors are the Professional Association of Pearls Zhejiang, Tahitian Pearl Association Hong Kong (TPAHK) and Zhanjiang Pearl Association. Acelab Technology Limited is the audiovisual services partner, while Dr. Miro Fei-Yeung Ng, Founder and President of the Centre for Gemmological Research, is the Project Consultant.

Orient Odyssey offers visitors an immersive experience that transports them to the enchanting world of pearls without ever leaving the show.
The journey begins by exploring the history and lore of pearls, from ancient Greece to Asia. Further insights include the classification, mineralogy and gemmology of pearls, along with details on cultivation techniques and major pearl farming regions. Additionally, visitors may closely examine fine pearl specimens provided by Orient Odyssey partners.
At interactive stations, live demonstrations provide an intimate glimpse into the delicate process of extracting pearls from oysters. Designer Rosemary Chung likewise leads sessions on pearl jewellery styling, while gemstone artist Victor Tuzlukov invites visitors to witness his pearl facetting techniques up close. Live presentations will be held daily.
Going beyond its comprehensive exploration of pearl culture and history, the exhibit also prompts contemplation on the significance of pearls as indicators of oceanic health and the broader natural ecosystem.
Rounding up the Orient Odyssey experience is a freshwater pearl jewellery and accessories Charity Sale. The net proceeds from the sale will be donated to A Drop of Life, a Hong Kong NGO that initiated “clean water and sanitation” projects in Cambodia, Nepal, Myanmar and China, among others. The pearls for the fundraising activity were gifted by Grace Pearl, Heng Mei and Yee On Pearls & Jewellery.

“Beyond Precious: Pearl Farming And Environmental Stewardship” took place yesterday at the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) section of JGW. The session explored the future of pearl farming and addressed the environmental challenges faced by pearl producers today. The expert panel consisted of Hiroki Goto of K Mikimoto & Co Ltd and the Japan Pearl Exporters’ Association, Jacques Christophe Branellec of Jewelmer, Jens Knauer of The AUTORE Group and Dr. Rebecca Koss of Paspaley Pearling Company Pty Ltd.
Today, a session on “The Power Of Pearls: Sustainable Gems For A New Generation,” is set from 3:15pm to 4:15pm at the Grand Foyer of the HKCEC. The panel discussion aims to explore innovative strategies, from design to branding, that further bolster the universal appeal of pearls. Bringing together experts from pearl producers and the world’s iconic luxury pearl jewellery brands, the discussion will centre on the incomparable beauty of pearls, emphasising their status as the world’s only renewable gems. The HKCEC session features Rosario Autore of AUTORE, Zhan Weijian of Grace Pearl, and returning speakers Branellec and Koss.
In addition to connecting with the world’s top pearl suppliers at JGW, visitors also have the opportunity to source all their diamonds, coloured gemstones, finished jewellery, packaging products, equipment & tools, and technology solutions at the show. The world’s largest B2B jewellery sourcing event is currently taking place at the AWE, featuring loose stones and other precious materials until Friday, 20 September, and at the HKCEC, the finished jewellery section of the fair, until Sunday, 22 September.
